  • RAINBOWS CHARITY FASHION EVENT

12 of us from all 3 BISS salons styled the hair & did the make-up for over 50 models on 24/4/08
for the RAINBOWS childrens hospice charity fashion show at Fairfield Preparatory School in Loughborough. While it was one of the most disorganised events I have ever had the pleasure to be involved in - we were happy to donate our time & skills to such a worthy cause. Big thanks to all the Bliss team for your hard work on the night!

  • 2008 - NICK'S MAKEOVER!!

    NICK BEFORE - 18 STONE!
Just for the record I spent 2007 losing a whopping 4 stones on weight watchers & got my eating habits in order! Big thanks to my leader Tracy - I couldn't have done it without her! If you're in the same boat I was - get yourself down to The Nottingham Mechanics club 10am Saturday mornings (or any weight watchers meeting) & meet Tracy for yourself - you won't regret it-she's amazing! I have learnt to change the way I eat permanently, rather than do diets, which all failed for me in the past.

NICK AFTER - 4 STONES LIGHTER!

    BLISS.JULIE OSWIN PHOTOGRAPHY.LASER & LIGHT CLINIC.LOUGHBOROUGH ECHO.SUTTON BONNINGTON HALL

    5,000.00 MAKEOVER COMPETITION
Here is a re-cap of our Bliss Makeover competition in collaboration with the above friends. I am very focused on my double anniversary of my 25 years in hairdressing & 18 years since opening my 1st salon. I just thought I’d re-cap & update visitors to my blog with the current situation as we have decided to increase the prizes for the 6 Echo Reader finalists. This has now swollen to a value of over 5,000.00!!! The reason for this is that we felt the final 6 all deserved a make-over for different, yet special reasons which were very varied: upcoming 50th birthday parties, nightime care work, losing looks & being devoted full time carers or Grandmothers.

As Bliss is all about make-overs, fashion & looking good, I decided to mark my double anniversaries by, re-designing & refitting all 3 Bliss salons & making over our website. While I was in make-over mood I decided it would be great to collaborate with some my friends at JULIE OSWIN PHOTOGRAPHY, THE LASER & LIGHT CLINIC, THE LOUGHBOROUGH ECHO & PRESTWOLD HALL to offer ECHO readers the chance to get involved in all this madness, by organising a competition with prizes of fabulous make-overs.
The standard of entries was very high & after very careful consideration, myself & judges from BLISS, THE LASER & LIGHT CLINIC & JULIE OSWIN PHOTOGRAPHY decided that all the entrants from the final 6 all deserved a make-over as their individual reasons for entering were so touching & deserved. Therefore BLISS, THE LASER & LIGHT CLINIC, PRESTWOLD HALL & JULIE OSWIN PHOTOGRAPHY, are now donating over £5,000.00 worth of '10 years younger' TV style makeovers - one lucky winner will then recieve a LUXURY VIP photo shoot & upgraded treatments......look out for the winners here!

Wella Colour Experts are now resident in all Bliss salons - what they don't know about hair colour & current Winter trends isn't worth knowing, just ask if you need advice or inspiration request to check out our colour look books.

We now have Redken Hair & Scalp Clinics in all 3 salons - so please feel free to book in & discuss your concerns & requirements confidentially with any team member.

Stef Wall from Sister Bliss beat of stiff competition on stage in London to win a place on Racoon Hair Extensions International Art Team - well done Stef! Look out for the latest extension looks as worn by the Bliss team & applied by Stef herself. Stef has already been to her first RATpack session & trained in all the latest extension looks from the catwalks. The newext addition to the world of extensions are Racoon microwefts - these are re-usable, affordable, high quality human extensions -Racoon have trained a microweft specialist in each bliss salon - so contact usto find out more & book your consultation. Scroll down to see pictures from Stefs win & read more.

    DEAF AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

Me with Olympic medalist Tony Ally

Deaf Awareness Presentation I was invited by my audiologist Ian Arnold at Arnold Hearing Care, to deliver 2 presentations about how I manage my deafness at work & in my career as a hairdresser & salon owner. I began by screening a high fashion video presentation of Bliss's portfolio of photographic images, set to a pumping house track. I did this to show what I do professionally as I don't think many people associate this with a hearing loss. My presentation was put together to challenge peoples perceptions of what kind of life a typical person with a hearing loss leads. I discussed the challenges I have faced both personally & professionally & demonstrated with a video how I manage these with equipment & techniques to help me communicate better at work & in social, noisy situations. One of the other presenters was Olympic Medalist & Swimmer Tony Ally, who faces similar challenges through his hereditary hearing loss as a professional sportsman. I am now involved in other campaigns for deaf awareness as I feel if I can achieve what I have at Bliss with a hearing loss, I hope it inspires others to realise they can do it too, whatever challenges they face. My Dad, Brother & Aunt all have the same type of loss as me, so I know it is getting progressivley worse as I get older - therefore I am currently learning British Sign Language at college in Nottingham to enable me to communicate with all types of people both at work & socially. I just wanted to say a big thankyou to Ian & the team at Arnold Hearing Care for inviting me to speak at these important events - if any deaf or hard of hearing clients have had problems when having their hair cut in the past, do come & see us as my team are very aware of your needs through communicating with me. Please email me at our contacts page for more information.

(below) I was the compere/MC on stage at the maze in Nottingham the other Saturday for a hilarious one off panto entitled Pinochihohoho!

As a Salon Owner I have double celebrations in 2008 as it's my 25th year as a hairdresser & 18 years since I opened my first salon - To commemorate this he I have put together a brand new website. Check out our new online home - http://www.blisshair.com/

Finally I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Sam Middleton, the Bliss Group's Executive Stylist, for all her hard work & dedication over the last 10 years. Sam has been instrumental in Bliss's growth & development & I am sure I speak on behalf of all the team & our loyal clients in wishing her the best of luck in her new life in Australia. Good Luck - We'll miss you!

    Thank you for reading!

  • STEF WON!! UK TRIUMPH FOR SISTER BLISS STYLIST!

Sister Bliss Stylist Stef Wall the Racoon celeb team - RATPACK

Four stylists have been chosen to be part of an international hairdressing team.

Nikki Gallimore from Stoke on Trent, Melissa Watson from Reading, Stefanie Wall from Sister Bliss in Loughborough and Louisa Saxon from Chelmsford won their places on the Racoon International Artistic Team after impressing celebrity hairdressers, Guy Kremer and Richard Ward, in front of an audience of thousands of people at the hairdressing industry’s top international event staged in London.

As part of the elite Racoon International Artistic Team they will be working with celebrity hairdressers on hair fashion photo shoots, live stage shows and seminars, and helping to create new looks for Racoon International’s style collections.

Racoon International hair extensions are the celebrity’s favourite choice and were behind the new-look Sharon Osbourne bob. Other celebrity fans include Kelly Osbourne, Denise Van Outen, Jenny Frost, Jade Jagger and Emmerdale’s bad girl and Strictly Come Dancing diva Claire King.

Nikki began working at her mum, Ann’s salon while still at school, and became a partner in the business at just 18 years old. She said: I just love hair extensions and when I was invited to present two models whose hair I had done in London I couldn’t believe it. I had to sort out the music, the choreography, the clothes and makeup as well as the hair. I was really nervous to be judged by Guy Kremer and Richard Ward – two of the industry’s best known hairdressers - but once I was on the stage is was really lovely.newfaces
Melissa has been hairdressing since leaving school 16 years ago and became a salon director in 2002. She has been using Racoon International extensions on her clients for the past 18 months and says they are a really exciting addition to hairdressing opportunities: I love doing extensions. They are really creative and are a way of changing the way someone looks in a short time. The results can be as subtle or as dramatic as they want.

For Stefanie being chosen to join the team still seems like a dream: I was very nervous about having my models on a huge catwalk in front of so many people, and being judged by famous hairdressers. But I just wanted to get across how much I love working with extensions. It was such a busy day – and well worth it. I now can’t wait to do more extensions as part of the art team.

I get so inspired by doing extensions. It is great to add colour, create fringes, make a new style say, if you are growing out a bob, or just wanting a daring hairstyle. The Racoon extensions look natural and can be styled just like ordinary hair.

The youngest stylist to join the Racoon International Artistic Team is Louisa, who has only been hairdressing for three years. She said: This was my first big competition and it was very scary but it was a great experience – particularly having to present on a catwalk in front of so many people. I am really looking forward to going to shows and photoshoots and working with top stylists and photographers, and broadening my horizons.
