Saks Apprenticeships – England’s biggest hair and beauty training provider – is using National Apprenticeship Week 2015 (9 -13 March) to celebrate shining examples apprenticeship success, from learners to employers.

National Apprenticeship Week is an annual celebration of apprenticeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy.  Coordinated by the National Apprenticeship Service, National Apprenticeship Week 2015 is all about encouraging more small business to take on an apprentice.

Bliss Hair, a leading hair group in the East Midlands, has been working successfully with Saks Apprenticeships for ten years delivering over 40 apprenticeship programmes during that time.

What makes Bliss stand out as an employer is their understanding of how investing in apprentices can benefit a business, with two former apprentices currently working in senior management roles at the Nottingham and Loughborough salons.

unnamedNick Tedd, owner of Bliss Hair, says: “Apprentices have been instrumental in the success and expansion of my business.  They are an integral part of our my team, coming into contact with all of our clients and keep things running smoothly, the salon really couldn’t operate without them.

‘Working with Saks Apprenticeships as our training provider has been a fantastic experience.  Learners benefit from one-to-one training with their Saks Educator Georgina, as she comes into the salon to oversee all the assessments. We’re really lucky too that Georgina shares our passion for the hairdressing industry and craft; it benefits our learners incredibly and makes our lives a lot easier.

Nick continues: “As an employer my feeling towards apprenticeships is, I love working in hairdressing, it’s in my blood, and if someone comes along who shares my passion and enthusiasm for the industry, then I’m happy to give my time and resources to help them develop into the best they can be and achieve their career goals.”

As a testament to the excelle nt standard of training, Bliss Hair apprentices have racked up a number of prestigious accolades in the industry including Racoon Extensionist of the Year and National Saks Apprentice of the Year.  They have featured as finalists of the BBC TV show UK Best Hairdresser, and are active in the Fellowship of British Hairdressing with representation on The Colour Project and Project X.

The company has been commended in the industry for its dedication to employees previously winning an Edge Employer Award for ‘Investment into Training’ and a credit from industry bible Creative Head, being given the ‘Most Wanted Team’ award.

Tina Rook, Head of Saks Apprenticeships adds; ‘Bliss Hair is an excellent example of how a small business can be greatly enhanced by effective staff training and investment in apprenticeships. Nick and the team at Bliss are passionate about sharing their expertise, they dedicate the necessary time to their apprentices and the team and overall the business reaps the rewards from it.

“And there’s never been a better time to think about taking on an apprentice with a massive amount of support available, including a government grant of up to £1500 to assist with the costs of wages and training.”

Nick concludes: “I couldn’t recommend apprenticeship training enough, any small businesses out there considering it I’d say go for it! It’s changed the face of our business and I have no doubt we will continue to invest in apprenticeships for many more years to come.”
