With over 40 years in the British hairdressing industry, Nick is the creative force and business owner behind Bliss Hairdressing.
An award-winning hairdresser, qualified teacher and assessor, Nick began his career in 1982, going on to live and work in London and travel internationally as a session hairdresser, working on photographic shoots, film, television and creative projects.
After returning to his East Midlands roots, Nick established his own salon businesses, opening five salons throughout his career. Today, he is the owner and Managing Director of Bliss Hairdressing Ltd, with salons in Nottingham and Loughborough.
Bliss has earned a reputation for its creativity, commitment to education and progressive team culture. Among its achievements, Bliss became the first salon to win Creative HEAD magazine’s prestigious UK’s Most Wanted Team Award, alongside numerous other industry awards and nominations.

“We Listen. We Care. We Advise.”These days, Nick works behind the scenes, concentrating on business strategy, developing people, supporting his management team and creating opportunities for the next generation of hairdressers.
A qualified educator, assessor and business coach, he’s developed training programmes, staff handbooks and professional development systems. Many former Bliss apprentices have gone on to become successful stylists, managers, educators and salon owners themselves.
For Nick, it’s always been about people. He believes attitude, individuality, shared values and a willingness to learn are just as important as technical ability.

Art, Creativity & Life Beyond Bliss
Nick has always considered hairdressing an art form, and his passion for creativity led him to study Visual Arts Practice at Nottingham Trent University, where he developed his work as a mixed media artist.
His artwork combines photography, found materials, personal storytelling and visual narratives, often drawing on his own experiences, identity, memory and popular culture. He’s exhibited and sold his work, with pieces displayed in public spaces, exhibitions and his salons.
Art, fashion, music, travel and culture remain huge influences. From London’s galleries and theatres to the music and character of New Orleans, Nick is always looking for fresh ideas and inspiration.
A keen photographer, traveller and writer, he enjoys sharing his experiences and observations, often with a healthy dose of humour.
Making a Difference Beyond the Salon
Alongside Bliss and his creative work, Nick is actively involved in volunteering, campaigning and supporting communities.
As someone who is deaf, he uses his own experiences to raise awareness of hearing loss, improve accessibility and challenge misconceptions.
He’s a trustee and volunteer for the National Association of Deafened People (NADP) and Hear Together, a Nottingham-based charity supporting deaf children, young people, adults and their families.
Nick is also an Ambassador for Stagetext, which helps make theatre, arts and cultural experiences accessible through captioning and live subtitling.
His campaigning interests also include equality, inclusion and representation. He believes everyone should feel comfortable being themselves, a value reflected in the welcoming and individual approach he encourages throughout Bliss.
Looking Ahead
After more than four decades in hairdressing, Nick remains passionate about developing people, supporting creativity and ensuring Bliss continues to offer opportunities for the next generation.
For him, success isn’t simply measured by business growth or awards, but by the opportunities created, the relationships built and the difference people make to one another.
“Hairdressing has given me an extraordinary career, taken me around the world and introduced me to some amazing people. I’ve always believed in creativity, individuality and being open to change. There’s still so much to learn, experience and look forward to.”

How long have you been in hairdressing? Since 1982 – over 40years!
What attracted you to the hairdressing industry? Helping people look and feel fantastic! Hair is 90% of your selfie and the outfit you never take off. I love how it has the power to transform how someone feels.
Favourite thing about Bliss: No two days are the same! I love working with talented, creative people, seeing them grow and knowing we’ve helped shape so many careers along the way.
Favourite food: Indian food and a proper Sunday roast. I also love cooking, eating out and trying new flavours.
Favourite colour: Orange – always!
Favourite drink: Gin & slim / Prosecco
Favourite holiday destinations: Sicily, Mexico, Spain and the USA, particularly the Deep South. I love discovering new places, but I’m just as happy enjoying a few days in London or Whitby.
Favourite animal: Dogs, without question!
Favourite music: Soul, house, funk and jazz, plus plenty of guilty pleasures!
Favourite films: Far too many to choose from, but I’ve watched Some Like It Hot and Carry On Screaming dozens of times. I love all films from classic to horror, but they have to be captioned!
Favourite TV shows: Anything that catches my attention on Netflix. I love a good drama, documentary or something completely unexpected.
Favourite books: Autobiographies. I’ve nearly always got an audiobook or podcast on the go.
Favourite celebrity style: Debbie Harry, young Elvis and anything with a strong 1970s or 1980s influence.
Hair icons: Debbie Harry, Diana Ross, Farrah Fawcett, Mia Farrow and Diana Dors. So many iconic looks and personalities!
Favourite magazines: The Sunday Times Style magazine and Creative HEAD.
Fun facts you might not know about Nick: I’m a mixed media artist with a fine art degree, and I’ve had my work exhibited in galleries and public spaces. I love travel, photography, music, culture and food. My partner Rob and I enjoy everything from weekends in Whitby to adventures in Sicily, Lisbon and London, while my solo travels have taken me to Mexico and across the USA.
I’m also deaf and live with heart disease, but neither defines me or stops me making the most of life. I’m passionate about accessibility, inclusion and making sure everyone gets the opportunity to be themselves.
And after more than four decades in hairdressing, I still get excited by a brilliant haircut, an amazing colour transformation and seeing someone discover their talent!
Nick might no longer be behind the salon chair, but his creativity, personality and passion for people remain at the heart of Bliss.
